Testing props for Stinger 260 - what do you use?
« on: May 20, 2014, 11:58:11 pm »
Just wondering what props / pitch etc people are using. Using mercury's prop program to try and get best fit. So far I've tried Bravo 22 pitch 4 blade - cavitates a bit when getting out of hole 3500 rpm at 40 mph, 5084rpm at max 57 mph. The new Enertia Eco 23 pitch - cavitates a lot overreving engines / almost unable to get onto plane but once up goes fine 3200rpm at 40mph, 4000rpm at 50mph, 4354rpm at 59mph - these props are obviously too high pitch. Rev 4 19 pitch (my old props), no cavitation and 4050rpm at 40mph, 5200rpm at 54mph - so assuming pitch is too low.

Engines/Drives are new Bravo 1 300hp x 2, max revs around 5200.

I'm thinking to try Enertia Eco 21 and Rev 4 21. But has anybody got any other suggestions? One thing I'm surprised about is the props cavitating if the pitch is too high? - is this usual? Drives are full way down at this point...

Thanks

Sadly I have learned the hard way that there is no FINAL SOLUTION to the prop decision issue..

When I had my 260 I tried many different configurations. Even borrowed a set of clevers from a friend to try out! The clevers spun crazy and the boat lazily got out of the water but had a good top end. I ended giving back the clevers and going back to three and four blade configurations.

It's mostly trial and error and the sad part is that unless you can borrow a set of props to try out , you end up spending a lot of money buying and re-selling props. I found the Alphas on my boat were too deep of an X dimension for the clevers but four blade 19's worked pretty good for top end and jumping out of the water from a dead stop. My buddies boat (same as mine only one year older) had a set of triple bladess and his boat performed good also. One day we switched right at the beach and we found that each others props did not work well on our boats so we immediately switched back. Fun day and lots to learn...............

Yes, certainly is trial and error and I'm sure depends a lot on weight distribution. I tried enertia eco's 23's and barely got on the plane but mind blowing performance after that - pitch was obviously too high as was doing 40mph at 3000rpm and maxed at at 57mph at 4300rpm! But throttle response was impressive once moving...

Since them have tried bravo 1's, mirage plus 23's and rev 4 21's. Mirages were too high (57mph at max 4900rpm). Bravo's 57mph at 5030rpm. Rev 4 60.3mph at 5050 rpm's - so rev 4 my favourite so far. Am going to try Enertia Eco 21's out of interest. If these aren't what I want I'll get Rev 4 lab props (which add around 150rpm) if price isn't too much more, otherwise will go rev 4's stock which were pretty good!
