260 Stinger Centre of Gravity?
« on: August 05, 2013, 11:39:21 pm »
Hi, I'm getting a new trailer made for my Chriscraft Stinger 260. I need to give them estimated centre of gravity. My existing trailer was not setup for the boat and I know it's a bit light at the towball so want to get this one right. I've got the two Merc 350 inboards 150khbog batteries 150kg of water/tank plus the alpha 1 gen 2 drives at the back plus a generally full fuel tank (around 500kgs) in the usual spot. Not much up fromt apart from 300 feet of chain Under the anchor. I'm guessing centre of gravity may be around 1.5m from the stern but that may be bit far back.

Total boat weight is 3540 kgs approx.
Any advice???

Thanks
Andrew

My advice is to get a "Bunk" style and definite stay away from rollers!
If the guy has any savvy building trailers he should know how to set it up???????
I had my trailer custom made for my 260 from a company here in Ontario and the guy did a fabulous job. Trailer towed very nice!
The front rest was moveable so you could set the tonge weight for a positive weight of a couple hundred pounds which is normal. You DON"T want a negative weight on the tonge or the trailer will sway all over the place on the road while towing.
The boat was very easy to load and I did it many times alone.......
Here are some pics of my trailer:

Thanks Stinger390X. That helps a lot. Would you be able to let me know how far away your back axle is from the stern of your boat (not including platform)?

From your pics it appears your axles are further back from mine which would make sense as I certainly need more tongue weight...

You can see that the centre of the two axels are at the part where the windshield meets the top gunwhale. This is a good point of balance for a boat with twins. (yours do have twin engines I take it?)
