Title: Is this a 312 Stinger?? Looks like one...

I saw this ad locally and the owner isnt sure which model it is. Says its an 1986, but it doesnt match descriptions anywhere. Am in negotiations with this guy and trying to find out more about this boat in the meatime.
Any thoughts? Things to look for?

Looks like a Stinger - but I don't think it's an '86.  Have a look at the 86 Stingers in the gallery and you will notice that the side profile of the windshield is more curved starting in 1986.  The 1983-1985 models had the more angular profiles.  Best way to tell if it is a Stinger and what year is to get a HIN.  Post it here and I will decode it for you.

I've heard you should check the transom & stringers well on these boats.  Also, if you look in the side vents on the rear starboard/port side of the boats - you can see the plywood used when the boat was built and get an idea of the condition.  I would definitely recommend a surveyor before purchase.

I also agree that the Stinger in the pics is actually an 85'
However I have one other bone to pic as it states that it is a 32 but in reality it is a "Stinger 312" which is a 31 foot boat.

To answer your questions ... yes its a Stinger. Boat looks like it was well taken care of. Check the hull with a moisture meter and check the stringers under the engine mounts for rot.
