1982 390 XL EXTRA LIGHT??
« on: August 14, 2017, 09:42:09 pm »
I have a 1982 390xl , HIN says its #69 built early 1982 from Bradenton Fla.
While restoring this boat we have discovered many bulkheads, interior floor and misc structural parts are marked "390XL " as you can see it under the resin.  I know you have mentioned underglassed boats built around 81-82 but can this be an attempt to build a special extra light 390 stinger in 1982 ?
Has anyone else seen these markings on plywood under the glass?  The boat has no stress cracks, solid dry stringers and been in some rough water on lake erie at times. If it was underglassed it sure does not show it. The boat runs 70 mph gps with twin 500's 1.50 gears and hydromotive 4 blade 24" props. Has been stored in climate control since 1993 when I bought it.
I plan to weigh it when I get a chance this year. Does anyone know the exact weight of their 390's so I can compare weights.

From the Chris Craft Brochure, 390X Boat + 400's = 12,320 LBS.

My 38KV which is only 37.5 long by 8 wide is in the 9,000 range. The 390X being a full 39' long and 9' wide is a bit heavier.

I want to take my empty trailer to a weigh station and then again with the boat on it to find out for sure.
